LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Alabama powerhouse Ruben Studdard, dubbed the “Velvet Teddy Bear,” was crowned the new “American Idol” on Wednesday after a marathon search for the nation’s next instant pop star.
Studdard narrowly beat North Carolina student Clay Aiken, who turned from a bespectacled geek into a nationwide heartthrob, in a cliff-hanging finale..
