LOS ANGELES, April 14 /PRNewswire/ — Pipeline Entertainment, the leader in “convergence television,” announced today that they have entered into an exclusive agreement with MySpace.com to bring the online social networking phenomenon to episodic television.
The alliance gives Pipeline the domestic and international rights to create both reality-based and dramatic television formats based on the experiences of MySpace.com users who express their creativity and share their lives with their community of friends.
“MySpace.com has all the right elements for successful television, including enormous reach, audience connectivity, an influential community and measurable traffic and impressions. But most important, it is a vast source of fascinating real-life experiences that make truly compelling storytelling,” says Matthew D. Papish, President of Pipeline Entertainment.
As creator and executive producer of popular television shows including “Blind Date,” and “Classmates,” a Twentieth Television/ Foxlab daily syndicated show that debuted on July 7, 2003, Papish has melded traditional media, brand assets and web content into a new model for television entertainment. MySpaceTV will offer advertisers an exclusive website where they can buy a powerful integrated package that gives them exposure to millions of people, plus branded content inside the show, plus traditional spot buys. But viewers get a whole new deal as well.
“For audiences, the website will be like the fourth act to the TV show — they can go to the destination site to participate in the many challenges, and affect the outcome of the stories on the show,” says Papish.
According to Chris DeWolfe, co-founder of MySpace, inspiration for many elements of the new website-based show came after soliciting ideas from the site’s users. “The show will be created by MySpace users and feature MySpace users. Matthew Papish & Damon Harmon saw our user creativity as the real backbone of MySpace, and they tapped into that in a big way.”
Pipeline Entertainment co-created the MySpace television show with Chameleon Entertainment, a newly established television production company with a strong development team in place that packages cutting edge shows for all genre’s of network television. Damon Harman, the CEO / President of Chameleon Entertainment has executive produced and directed over 160 episodes of hit television for MTV in the last 18 months including TAILDATERS, and BURNED which premiered in July, 2003 with a 30 episode order. He recently Executive Produced and was showrunner on VH1′s LOVE SONGS: S.O.S., and REMIX, a DJ dance competition pilot created and directed by Damon, and sponsored by Avery’s Afterburner.
