NEW YORK, April 14 /PRNewswire/ — “Inspiration,” the debut album from pop culture phenomenon William Hung has had an amazing first week
at retail. “Inspiration,” a unique venture between KOCH Records and Fuse music television, sold an incredible 37,676 units during its first week of release, landing it in the #1 spot on the Billboard Independent Album Chart and debuting at #34 on Billboard’s Top 200
Early indicators pointed to the album doing well: Two weeks prior to “Inspiration’s” April 6th street date, four tracks were sold exclusively on iTunes as a “Pre-Release Teaser.” Since going on sale, these tracks have cumulatively sold a whopping 25,000 downloads.
In addition, AOL Music hosted a CD Listening Party for “Inspiration” beginning on Monday, April 5th. In its 7-day run, the album was listened to a total of 2.2 million times. This astonishing feat makes it the #1 most listened-to one-week CD Listening Party in AOL history. The previous record was held by Britney Spears. Furthermore, William Hung’s “Inspiration” CD was the #1 most purchased item in the AOL Store for the week of 4/2 – 4/8 and William was the #1 most searched artist on AOL for the same week.
After accepting a surprise recording contract and video production deal offer from Fuse Music Network and KOCH Records, William became a much-talked about topic in the media during the weeks leading up to the release of Inspiration. He performed his signature song, “She Bangs,” (backed by Aussie band West) on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and appeared on The Today Show and IMX on FUSE week of release. Interviews also appeared on E!, TV Guide Channel, CBS This Morning, Associated Press, as well as countless other TV, radio and press outlets.
On Friday, April 16th, William Hung will be doing his first in-store album signing at Tower Records located in the Hillsdale Shopping in San Mateo, California. The in-store will take place from 3-5p.m. (Pacific Time). Tower Records is located at 41 West Hillsdale Blvd. in San Mateo.
“Idol Worship: The Will Hung Story” and the music video for the first single — “She Bangs” — airs exclusively on FUSE (check local listings for channel numbers and airtimes).
