Dancing With The Stars – A Watch or Not Watch Review
By Diana Kaaha
Dancing with the Stars is a downright sexy show that is sure to make you vicariously dance along with these paired celebrity and professional dancers as they swirl across the stage to a live 15-piece band. The costumes are dazzling, the dance pros are hot and mesmerizing, and the celebrities (Rachel Hunter, Kelly Monaco, Joey McIntyre, Evander Holyfield, John O'Hurley and Trista Sutter) are fish out of water – yet they pull it off.
This fun and glitzy show moves along at a rapid clip. After a brief behind the scene’s look at each pair in training, the dance partners step on the stage dance floor. The modern stage is lit up in a spectrum of Hollywood lights, with an emphasis on romance.
Part of the fun of this show is watching a celebrity such as Evander Holyfield cha cha cha in a sexy low-buttoned white shirt and black ballroom dancer pants with an uncharacteristic muscular Latin-style grace, topped off with an engaging grin.
A high point of this debut episode was John O'Hurley’s performance as he took the lead with his cha cha cha partner, dressed in head to toe spandex. He let his acting persona take over, and it was a pleasure to watch.
Like American Idol, three judges critique these dancers. Bruno is a heavy accented Latin choreographer. Len is a popular head judge for ballroom dancing with an English accent. Carrie is a choreographer who tells it like it is – but not with the same quotable flair as our beloved Simon Cowell.
With only six couples, getting to know these pairs is an instant and intimate affair – but picking a favorite may not be so easy. But viewers will get their chance by calling in their vote – accounting for 50% of each pair’s score.
Each week these celebs and pros will compete and a pair will be eliminated. When the final two couples remain, a dance-off will determine who wins. With only six episodes, “Dancing With The Stars” is sure to leave us wanting more.
Overall Rating: Love it – a must watch!
