Akil Breaks Down His Experience on UPN’s “The Road To Stardom”

Akil Talks About His Experience on “The Road To Stardom”
How did land a spot on The Road to Stardom? Akil: “I liked the show so I decided to try out for it. I went from NY to LA and was offered a spot on the show.”

Have you always wanted to be a rapper/singer? Akil: ”I always wanted to be a singer but got into rap. I love being an MC. I started with piano lessons at the age of 3, then went on to join a boy’s choir and started playing guitar since the age of 13. I also did some rappin in high school.”
How do you think your RTS experience will change your future? Akil:”I believe a lot of doors are opening because of the experience. My name is out there and people are recognizing who I am. I am now working on a play that I am writing and directing that hopefully should come out this year.”
What advice would you give to aspiring rappers/singers trying out for the next season of RTS? Akil: “Don’t be afraid to learn your craft. Study and stay disciplined. If you are uncomfortable in a situation don’t avoid it, learn from it.”
Is there anything you saw that your competition did well or something you learned not to do because of another example? Akil: “Someone needs to give me that advice because I got booted. Sometimes it is out of your control you just have to give it your best. Whether it is 10 seconds or doing something that you are not that experienced with. Don’t be a slow starter.”
Knowing what you know now, would you do it all again? Akil: “Yeah, sure.” Sometimes it’s hard to become friends with the competitors, did you find that true? If so, which contestant did you clash with most and why? Akil: ”I made some good friends from the show like Eddie, Frank and Marcus. I just don’t stay in touch with all of them.”
What was your favorite episode? Akil: “High School. To be able to perform in front of an audience was the best and real experience I had. That was the most real life experience on the show.”
What are your future plans? Akil:”I am working on a new album. I am looking for a manager, producer and agent. I wrote a small book on rap theories and also some children’s books. More information can be found on my website at www.akildasan.com
